Hornets
Latin Name:Dolichovespula maculata
Description:Hornets are insects. They are the largest of the wasps. Some hornets reach up to 2.2 in. in length.
Habitat:They make nests in trees and bushes.
Life Cycle:---Hornets build their nest in the spring, usually in hollow tree trunks. Each nest contains between 200-400 Hornets. After hatching, Hornet larvae undergo five stages. Hornets live for several months, but only the fertilized queens survive over winter.
Type of Damage: If disturbed hornets will mobilize the entire nest to attack people and animals to protect their hive. People who are allergic to wasp stings are also allergic to hornet stings. Hornet stings tend to be more painful than typical wasp stings.
